Has anyone noticed the correllation between cyberpunk and the route our world is taking?

However instead of being blatantly dystopian it is being disguised as enlightened ( In our society anyway ). I was reading through some new material from some rpg I play and the funny thing is, is that it's barely ahead of what we have now in regards to bleeding edge or unethical technology. It introduced bio-drones ( living animals ) that are fused with enhancements that can be remotely controlled for various applications. I had recently read in an article about scientists in the preliminary stages of experimenting with camera technology grafted to flies. Is there ever a stopping point for progress?
