How to get my HP up on Kingdom hearts?

I'm currently in my second world, the Coliseum, and i don't have enough HP to pass through the preliminaries. I have watched walkthroughs on YouTube to try and figure out what to do, but it doesn't include how he got the HP that high. What do I do to get it higher so I can pass through the preliminaries?
